About Us
The Alabama Community Healthy Marriage Initiative (ACHMI) is made up of people who have a passion and expertise for helping families thrive. ACHMI is funded by a 5-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Family Assistance. It is a partnership between Auburn University, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Children’s Trust Fund of Alabama, a consortium of state agencies and organizations, and eleven Family Resource Centers, two Mental Health Centers, and a growing number of other individuals and community-based organizations who have joined together to provide programs and services to support the development and maintenance of healthy relationships and stable marriages throughout Alabama.
ACHMI strengthens families by:
- Raising public awareness about the importance of healthy marriages for children, family and community well-being
- Increasing access to healthy marriage resources
- Training community members and professionals in research-based programs that strengthen relationships and marriages
Our Target Populations
We provide programming for youth, non-married parents, pre-marital couples, stepfamilies and married couples.
Family Stability Counts
There is mounting research evidence that trends of increasing marital and family instability are negatively impacting children, adults, families, and communities. The research is clear: healthy relationships and healthy marriages, and resulting family stability specifically, benefit the physical, social, and emotional well-being of adults and children.
