Alabama Community Impact Award Sam Jones
Sam Jones is a master trainer who has trained over one hundred certified fatherhood facilitators. Jones is the former program director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)TASC Birmingham Fatherhood Initiative.
During his tenure at UAB, over 325 fathers attended class each week in 17 Birmingham fatherhood sites. He has also provided “train-the-trainers” workshops at family resource centers, such as the Family Guidance Center and Tuscaloosa’s One Place, and at other community-based agencies, facilitating community collaboration and coalition building. His accomplishments have earned him recognition from the National Fatherhood Organization in Washington, D.C.
In 2009, Bishop Jones participated in a National Fathering Court Summit in Washington, D.C. He was so inspired that he returned to Alabama with an ultimate goal of developing a statewide Fathering Court System. He presented comprehensive information to the Alabama Department of Human Resources, the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and other community based organizations. The collaboration could bring much needed funds to the court system for Alabama’s Child Support program.
He is the father of two and happily married to Dr. Francine Jones.
